ChoreTree

Privacy Policy

The short version

ChoreTree is a family chores & allowance tracker, set up and run by a parent. There is no real money, no bank or card connections, and no payments between users — balances are a private family scoreboard the parent maintains.

ChoreTree keeps a family's chores and allowance in one place. We do not sell your data, we do not advertise to your children, and you can delete all of it whenever you want.

1. What we store, and where

To keep a parent's phone and a child's device showing the same list, ChoreTree stores your family's data in Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore), a cloud database we operate as the data controller. It is stored in Google's United States multi-region. Access is restricted by security rules to the devices signed in as members of your family.

WhatDetails
FamilyA family name you choose, currency or points setting, time zone, and your subscription status. The optional parent PIN is stored only as a salted hash — we cannot read the PIN itself.
Child profilesA nickname (a first name or a made-up name — your choice), a chosen preset avatar, a color theme, an optional birth year (year only, used to suggest age-appropriate chore templates), and the current balance.
Family activityChores and schedules, completions and approvals, allowance rules, savings goals, reward catalogs, reward requests, and the append-only ledger of earned / spent / saved entries.
MembershipThe anonymous account identifier of each device that joined the family, and its role (parent or child), so we can tell who is allowed to see the family.
InvitesA short, temporary invite code used to add a second device to the family.
Notification tokensThe Apple push token of each device, so notifications can be delivered.

We do not collect: email addresses, phone numbers, full dates of birth, children's photographs, precise or approximate location, contacts, microphone or camera recordings, health data, or any government identifiers. ChoreTree has no in-app social feed, community, public gallery, chat, or friend list in any version.

Firebase processes this data on our behalf under Google's data processing terms; see Google's Firebase privacy documentation.

2. Accounts and sign-in

ChoreTree does not ask you to register. On first launch the App creates an anonymous account — a random identifier with no name, email, or password attached — so your family's data can be linked to your device.

You may optionally link Sign in with Apple. If you do, we receive only the identifier Apple provides (and, if you choose to share it, an email — which may be Apple's private relay address). We use it for one purpose: to let you get your family back if you change or reset your device. Linking keeps the same account identifier, so nothing in your family changes.

3. Notifications

So that a parent reliably learns when there is something to approve, and a child learns when their tree was watered, our server sends push notifications through Apple. The message our server sends is opaque: it carries a notification type code and at most a neutral number (for example a count such as "3"). It never contains a child's name, a chore's name, or an amount. The wording you actually read ("New chore waiting for approval") is generated on your device, in your language.

You can turn notifications off at any time in iOS Settings.

4. Analytics, crash reports, and app integrity

a) Anonymous usage statistics

We collect device-level, anonymous usage events (Firebase Analytics) to understand how the App is used and to improve it — for example that a chore was approved, or a goal was completed. These events are numeric and aggregate. No child identity — no name, profile identifier, birth year, or avatar — is ever included in any analytics event or log.

b) Crash reports

When the App crashes we receive an automatic technical report (Firebase Crashlytics): the device model, the iOS version, and the code path that failed. We attach no custom data to these reports — no account identifier, no family content, and no child identity. We use them for one thing: finding and fixing the crash.

c) App integrity

To protect our service from abuse, the App uses Apple App Attest (Firebase App Check) to prove that requests come from a genuine copy of ChoreTree. This does not identify you.

5. Children's privacy

ChoreTree is a parent-administered family tool, not a service directed to children on its own. It is not submitted to the App Store's Kids Category. A child never registers, never enters an email, and never creates data outside the family a parent set up.

Consistent with a child-data-minimizing (COPPA-aligned) posture:

A parent can review, correct, or permanently delete everything about their child at any time from the App (see §7). If you are a parent or guardian with a question about your child's data, write to support@kurtulusahmet.com.

6. What we do not do

7. Your control, retention, and deletion

8. Purchases

The optional ChoreTree premium subscription (and the lifetime option) is sold and processed by Apple through in-app purchase. We receive purchase status from Apple's provider (RevenueCat) to unlock features; we do not receive your payment card details. See Apple's terms and our Terms of Service.

9. International users, transfers & legal basis

The App is available in several languages and countries, and your family's data is stored in the United States. If you use ChoreTree from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, that means your data is transferred outside your country; these transfers rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses as implemented in Google's data processing terms.

Where GDPR/UK GDPR applies, our legal bases are: performance of a contract (storing and syncing the family data you asked us to keep, and delivering any purchase) and legitimate interests (keeping the service reliable, secure, and improved through anonymous statistics). You have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, and portability. Because we hold no name, email, or password for you, most requests are satisfied fastest by using the delete controls in §7; for anything else, contact support@kurtulusahmet.com and we will respond within 30 days.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. Material changes will be posted here with a new effective date. Note: this policy was revised on July 25, 2026 to describe ChoreTree's move from Apple iCloud storage to our own cloud backend, which is what makes real-time sync and reliable notifications possible.
